The change of guard ceremony takes place at the first Sunday of every month, the format is based on the British changing of guards ceremony at Buckingham Palace. Even though security of the Istana has been transferred over to the Singapore Police Force, the symbolic ceremony still remains as a formal tradition to signify the the outgoing sentry guards being relived by a new batch. A little extra commentary from a Singaporean fan here: 1. The Parade Commander is speaking Malay as our national language. However, we have English, Malay, Chinese, Tamil as our official languages. Hence the unusual hearing of English from the commentator. This is a nod to our nation on the traditional lands of the Malay owners, while keeping the standards of a British/Commonwealth Armed Forces commonly seen around. 2. Yep there is a combined band, in this case, it's the Singapore Armed Forces and the Singapore Police Force Band. They are located at the back of the parade and are the last group to leave the parade. 3. The presence of the social, economic, psychological and other civil contingents are part of Singapore's pillars of total defence, where everyone, regardless of personal background, play a part in Singapore's defence. These are all influenced from post-independence Singapore, where everything requires discipline and corporation from everyone to make Singapore to where it is today. So, yea we do society stuff different here. A little draconian in some way, but hey it worked out well👍 3. The head right salute difference is that the reviewing officer (in this case, the President of Singapore) is located at a high platform. Hence looking right only is a little harder to 'see' the reviewing officer. 4. Yep, so the difference between the Police and Civil Defence is that one oversees the overall policing in Singapore. And Civil Defence is more on life saving, like Firefighting and Ambulance. They both form together as the 'Home Team'. 5. So a little part is that the Scouts and Girl Guides are influenced from the Boys Brigade. (This requires a little history research here, so not gonna explain all that.) 6. Yea the music is all pre-recorded. Hard to get mics to play well here. A little unfortunate here. 7. For those who want to watch the full video, do enjoy the parade on UA-cam! Just search it up and enjoy more about the Parade itself. 8. Forgot one more: yes, the cadet contingents are carrying umbrellas. This is for the formation 'NDP 2023' when the parade salutes the Head of State (the President) and the National Anthem plays. Glad that you like the parade segment of the parade. the national language of singapore is malay, but the official languages are english, chinese, malay and tamil (corresponding to the major races - chinese, malay, indian, and 'other'). english is the main language but all people are required to learn their 'mother tongue' because of singapore's policy of 'multiracialism'.

Training to accomplish a task as a group of soldiers etc. brings the group together and prepares you for battle.

So would you rather have a pride flag or a Palestinian flag. I'm a veteran I don't have a problem with its. Nothing wrong with recognizing our fallen and missing heroes. You don't sound very patriotic.

If they want to have the flag present it can follow behind the formation. Not in it.

A ritual/ceremony is the magical act that makes the abstract concrete and fictional real. Nobody understood the political importance of ceremonies better than Confucius, who saw the strict observance of rites as the key to social harmony and political stability.

I would tell my soldiers it's about tradition, and showing respect to whatever dignitary is visiting for whatever reason. Plus it builds a special bond between the soldier's because it takes a lot of preparation for a ceremony, ie uniforms vehicles. So as a soldier you "ruck up" and handle it with pride.

War fighting organization. Not a drill organization. Let’s just remember what’s really important.
